Fusing

Glass fusing is a very old technique, which has already been used by the Egyptians and Romans 2000BC. The reason why it never became a widespread form of art, was the fact that it was impossible to produce fused pieces of large size. This was due to the fact that larger pieces of glass can be produced only, if one has coloured glasses with the same coefficient of expansion.

Intensive research efforts that have taken place mainly at the West Coast of the United States of America have now provided potential users with a wide range of such glasses. As a result, the use of fused glass has expanded considerably.

"Fusing" ist the art that allows to mix any colour, structure, size and thickness of glass and melt = fuse those into one solid piece of glass.

To give form to a flat piece, it has to be "slumped" over or into a mold.
